Latest Project

I finished my latest project tonight - not much to look at and not really challenging, but a project none-the-less. A friend of mine has a weekly poker game with the boys and wanted something to protect his table during the games. So he bought some green felt which I hemmed into a 6ftx6ft square. Then I sewed magnets into the corners to add some weight.

I wanted something on the back to keep it from sliding on the table. I had an extra scrap of the anti-skid stuff you put under rugs, so I put that on the back and I think it will work pretty well! We'll have to see what he has to say after they use it next week...

Anyway, that's what I did tonight. ...after watching Joshua all day, cleaning the kitchen, mowing the lawn, pulling weeds and getting groceries! It's nice to get all your errands done in one day!

Walls no longer bare...

The other day Bob and I finally had the same night off (shocker!) so we spent it hanging all the pictures and paintings that have been sitting in the living room for about 5 months! It took a while, but between both of our artistic eyes, I think it looks pretty good.

When I was home in January, Mom gave me some old family pictures, and I scanned and printed out some more. I have about 45 total, so we made a family wall in the living room. It's kind of a tradition since Mom, Dad and Katie all have one, and maybe Emily too. But it's a great way too see some of the history and genealogy of our family. And it makes all the empty white walls in that room a little less stark! This is the only room in the house that I hadn't done anything with yet, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

And since we were on a roll, we decided not to stop there! I had made a couple shadow boxes of pictures and mementos from Grandma and Grandpa that I finally finished. Grandma's has an old glass syringe from when she was a nurse back in the 40's and her class pin. Grandpa's is part of his old Navy uniform and a picture of him from WWII. So we put those up along with their respective uniform hats. It's pretty cool.

And then there was the stairway. I had originally put up some of the family pictures there before I got too many and ran out of room! So now that I have an artist in residence (sounds so royal, huh?!) we put up some of Bob's paintings. We also got a couple shelves to put some of his ceramics on as well. Bob said it looks like a gallery, which I think was what we were going for. Anyway, it looks good!

Finally, we put up the chickens. I still think they look like quail, but either way they're awesome! My friend Jessica and I found them at a garage sale earlier this summer, and they went so well with the couch that we had to put them up! Bob calls them road-runners. Kind of reminds me of all Mom's chickens in her kitchen.

So that's what's been going up here - literally! It's nice to finally have an office floor - those family pictures were starting to take up a lot of space! And it looks good to have things pretty much finished in the house as far as decorating goes. Feels like home.

Nothing much

I was told by Dad the other day that I'm about a month behind the rest of y'all and need to catch up on the blogging! Unfortunately, there's really nothing new going on here. I've been working a lot - too much, in fact. There are a lot of overtime opportunities in the ER this summer and I've been taking advantage of them. However, working 5 days a week takes it's toll. I think once the summer's over I'll go back to my usual 4. :)

Other than work I've been trying to relax a little. Bob and I got a Wii a couple weeks ago and have an ongoing grudge match of nintendo bowling! He beats me terribly in everything else, but I can hold my own on the lane. Uncle Art would be proud!

It's been raining a lot lately. We've gotten into the late summer pattern of evening thunder storms which is nice for the lawn! Kind of reminds me of Florida. And it smells good, too.

The dog is doing well. She never barks and is really close to learning how to "come". We're still working on it. She's definitely got a lot of energy and likes to play outside now that we've got the fence done. Her one flaw is that she absolutely destroys every toy we buy her, so we've resorted to the "indestructible" ones. Fortunately she's only gotten a hold of one of my sandals!

And that's about all that's going on here! Pretty pathetic, I know, but hopefully once I stop working so much I'll have a little more to report! Like maybe a trip to see the niece and nephew - hint, hint Katie.

Until next time...
